We are delighted to share that planning approval has been granted for a carefully considered, glazed corner extension to a family home in Wokingham.
The project includes a side and rear extension, along with internal refurbishments, to a property situated on the edge of parkland. The homeowners approached us, as experienced residential architects in Wokingham and Berkshire, with a clear brief: to increase light throughout the property, establish a peaceful library space, and design an additional quiet living and entertaining area that could open seamlessly into the garden.
Our proposals included the partial conversion of the garage to create a dedicated library, complete with a window seat as a comfortable reading nook. The side and rear extension incorporates a two-sided fireplace, designed to provide both a visual and spatial connection to the existing living room.
A key feature of the design is the glazed corner extension, where sliding glass doors open fully to remove the corner entirely, offering uninterrupted access to the garden. This creates a strong indoor-outdoor connection, perfect for modern family living.
To further maximise natural light, we introduced a rooflight over the junction between the extension and the existing living room, along with a bespoke projecting window and internal seat. These features are designed to flood the home with daylight, transforming the internal atmosphere and creating a brighter, more welcoming space.
With a north-facing garden and a previously disconnected layout, the new design works hard to enhance the quality of light and create a more cohesive relationship between the home and its surrounding garden.
We look forward to sharing updates as this exciting home extension progresses through the next stages.
