Two storey contemporary extension to double the size of property, Berkshire
The owners of this three bedroom property wanted to take advantage of the spacious corner site, to maximize the size of the house they could achieve.

Approach
Our concept design added an additional storey to the house, gaining two new bedrooms at first floor and almost doubling the size of the original house, all while sticking to a tight budget.
The scheme also aspired to re-brand the house within this budget. This was achieved with a contemporary design that used local vernacular materials in a modern setting. Ideas of prefabrication and other sustainable products were considered, as well as construction methods that would reduce the build time and hence the overall cost.
The original openings were used in conjunction with a new feature chimney linking new to old.
The proposal transforms a 280 square metre three bedroom house into a 550 square metre 5-bed property, whilst carefully respecting the scale of the plot and the rest of the street scene.
