HARCOURT HOUSE

By adding a second storey to the existing structure, we increased the living space from 280 square meters to 550 square meters. This expansion included two new bedrooms, enhancing the home's functionality for a growing family.

The project was designed to stay within a strict budget. By using prefabricated elements and sustainable construction methods, we reduced build time and costs. These efficient techniques allowed us to deliver a high-quality, cost-effective solution.

Our design aimed to rebrand the house with a contemporary look, utilizing local vernacular materials in a modern context. This blend of traditional and contemporary styles creates a unique and appealing aesthetic.  We also considered prefabrication and sustainable products to ensure an environmentally friendly build. These choices not only contributed to cost savings but also aligned with modern sustainability standards.

The original openings of the house were thoughtfully incorporated into the new design. A new feature chimney serves as a visual link between the old structure and the new additions, creating a cohesive and harmonious design.

Despite the significant increase in size, the proposal carefully respects the scale of the plot and the surrounding street scene. The design ensures that the expanded property blends seamlessly with its environment, maintaining the character and integrity of the neighborhood.  The transformed property now boasts five bedrooms and expanded living areas, providing ample space for the family while maximizing the potential of the corner site.
